Recently we had a guest speaker. Judy spoke to us about the Appalachian Trail and Hiking Safety. As part of our Maine Studies, we will participate in a small hike. While there we will learn how the mountain was formed- from glaciers. We will also stop at a local state park and participate in a presentation by a ranger where students will learn about the ecosystem and even have a hands-on experience of touching and holding Maine animal pelts.
Students are engaged in their reading. They love the fact they choose the books they want to read with our new Lucy Calkins' Reading Curriculum.
We recently finished a narrative unit. The mentor text used was "The Tiger Rising." It was a book about life issues- friendship, loss, and bullying. We learned things that can apply to our own lives. Kate DiCamillo was the author. She has written other books as well. |
