We have been learning about Maine, its geography, history, government, resources, and industries. Recently, we had guest speaker/lobsterman,
Mr. Barber in to teach us about a "day in the life of a fisherman". Holly was thrilled to be hired as "sternman".
We also had Judy, an avid hiker in to talk about the Appalachian Trail and Hiking Safety. We will soon go on a local hike and also learn about how the glaciers formed the mountain and the area surrounding it. Next, we will stop off at one of Maine's state parks where a ranger will meet us to talk about the ecosystem. Students will have the opportunity to touch and handle some of Maine's acquired animal pelts.
Nick and Bob recently came to our school with their "traveling" mini museum of some of Peru's oldest artifacts. The students enjoyed seeing items that were once used locally. This will be a nice intro before we travel on over to Dixfield's Historical Society where there is an abundance of artifacts from clothing, to utensils, tools, games, etc for students to get an even better idea of what life was like a hundred or more years ago in our communities.

I have been teaching for 25 years. My experience includes grades 3,4, and 5. My dream to become a teacher started when I was ten years old. I can remember hours of "playing school." I was fortunate to have special teachers in my life that inspired me to follow in their footsteps. Teaching is very rewarding to me. Watching my students learn and grow is exciting.
